Diabetic & Vascular Foot Assessments

Focused assessment and practical advice to help you understand and look after your foot health.

Understanding Your Foot Health

Our diabetic and vascular foot assessment checks basic circulation and protective sensation, alongside the condition of your feet. We explain the findings and help arrange appropriate follow-up if a concern is identified.

What Do We Check?

  1. Your History: We discuss diabetes, relevant diagnoses, medication, previous wounds and symptoms such as numbness, altered sensation or pain when walking.
  2. Skin And Foot Condition: We inspect the skin, nails, pressure areas and any wounds or changes that need attention.
  3. Circulation With A Doppler: A handheld ultrasound probe, used with gel over foot arteries, lets us listen to blood-flow signals as part of a basic circulation assessment.
  4. Sensation With A Monofilament: A fine 10 g filament is gently applied to selected points on your feet. We ask whether you can feel it to help assess protective sensation.
  5. Explanation And Advice: We discuss what the results mean and give practical foot-care guidance.

What Can The Tests Tell Me?

The assessment can identify findings that need monitoring or further investigation. A Doppler signal alone does not rule out circulation disease, and a monofilament check is one part of a wider assessment.

Referral And Next Steps

Where appropriate, we can share our findings with your GP, with your consent, and help you access the next stage of care. Concerns that need specialist or urgent assessment are directed to the appropriate service rather than left for routine follow-up. Referral does not guarantee an immediate appointment.

Preparing For Your Appointment

Bring your medication list and details of your diabetes care, previous foot problems and relevant investigations. The fee is £50 for both diabetic and vascular checks.

When Not To Wait

If you have diabetes and develop a new wound, a hot or swollen foot, spreading redness or a change in colour, seek prompt medical advice rather than waiting for a routine appointment. Sudden severe pain or a suddenly cold, pale foot needs urgent assessment.
